We recently attended Camper Jam 16. It’s our second time at this awesome event! Last year, we stayed in the ‘Family Camping’ area, but this time we opted for the ‘Home Is Where You Park It’ section, which brought a slightly different vibe.
To be honest, we weren’t quite sure what to expect the first time around, but it turned out to be a fantastic experience. Huge thanks to our friends who recommended it. Word of mouth really is important! They even welcomed us into their wider group, which made the whole thing feel even more special.
One of the best parts about going with friends is catching up and enjoying the festival together. There’s so much going on, from music stages and fairground rides for the kids, to food and drink stalls. There are plenty of campervan accessory stalls if you’re on the lookout for gear.
This year’s lineup was excellent. The ABBA Inferno tribute band was a personal highlight. If you love ABBA, you’ll love them! We also enjoyed Sam ofFender (a Sam Fender tribute) and Pure Weller (Paul Weller tribute). The atmosphere was chilled and family-friendly. This made it perfect for our 9 and 11-year-old daughters. They got a lot out of the experience, too as they did last year.
A quick tip for anyone planning to go: there are no electric hook-ups. So you’re off-grid for the weekend. I learned from last year to keep the fridge on minimum power; otherwise, it quickly drains your battery. Another handy investment was a solid four-wheeler camping trolley. We tried using our festival two-wheeler last year and it wasn’t great for lugging stuff around. This year’s trolley made life so much easier, especially since you can end up quite a distance from the main areas.
For food, we packed snacks for breakfast and lunch. We also grabbed some delicious meals from the stalls and enjoyed a BBQ too. The music went on late into the night, which meant a few late nights for all of us. However, it was totally worth it for the fun and memories.
You don’t have to have a VW Campervan either! There are people with tents, tentboxes and motorhomes to name a few.
All in all, Camper Jam is a brilliant, relaxed festival that’s perfect for families who love campervans, good music, and a great community vibe. Can’t wait for next year!
