We recently enjoyed a fantastic few-night stay at Plasyngheidio Touring Caravan Site and Pods in North Wales, and it reminded me exactly why I love travelling by campervan.
This trip came about when a group of dads from school organised a couple of days away together. Several of them decided to book a hotel for the night, but another dad and I thought we’d make the most of my campervan and turn it into a longer trip. Instead of rushing down and back in a day, we booked two nights at Plasyngheidio and gave ourselves a chance to properly explore the area.
Why We Chose Plasyngheidio Touring Caravan Site and Pods
One of the things I enjoy most about campervan travel is the flexibility it gives you. Once you’ve secured a campsite, everything else can be decided as you go. There are no strict hotel check-in times to work around and no pressure to follow a fixed itinerary.
Plasyngheidio appealed to us because of its location on the beautiful Llŷn Peninsula, giving easy access to beaches, coastal walks and some of North Wales’ best scenery. It also provided a peaceful base for a couple of nights away with friends.
Modern Facilities and a Warm Welcome
From the moment we arrived, it was clear we’d picked a great site. The campsite is well maintained, peaceful and ideally located for exploring the surrounding area.
One of the first things that stood out was the quality of the facilities. The toilets and showers were modern, spotless and clearly looked after to a very high standard. Good facilities can make a huge difference to a camping trip, especially when you’re staying for a few nights, and Plasyngheidio certainly didn’t disappoint.
A special mention also has to go to Anwen, who was such a welcoming and friendly host throughout our stay. It’s often the people behind a campsite that leave the biggest impression, and it’s always nice arriving somewhere where you immediately feel welcome.
For anyone travelling by campervan, caravan or motorhome, it’s exactly the sort of site that makes for a relaxing and stress-free stay.
Exploring the North Wales Coast
One of the biggest advantages of staying at Plasyngheidio is its location. Within a short drive, you’re surrounded by fantastic beaches and coastal scenery.
On our first afternoon, we headed down to the coast for a swim in the sea. There’s something incredibly refreshing about a sea swim after a drive, especially on a warm day. Afterwards, we stopped for lunch at Siop a Caffi Traeth Becws Islyn.
Sitting down for good food with views of the coast was the perfect way to start the trip and helped us settle into holiday mode straight away.
North Wales is packed with opportunities for exploring, whether you enjoy walking, cycling, swimming or simply relaxing by the sea. It’s easy to understand why so many people return year after year.
Visiting Morfa Nefyn and the Ty Coch Inn
The following day we spent more time exploring the local area and headed towards Morfa Nefyn.
If you’ve never visited this part of North Wales before, it’s well worth adding to your list. The coastline is stunning, with beautiful beaches, dramatic scenery and plenty of opportunities for walking.
One of the highlights of the day was visiting the famous Ty Coch Inn. Often listed among the most beautiful beach pubs in the UK, it’s easy to see why. Reaching it involves a walk across the beach, which only adds to the experience.
We spent a relaxing afternoon enjoying the views, catching up with friends and making the most of the Welsh sunshine. Later, we took a stroll into town before heading back to the campsite for the evening.
That’s another thing I appreciate about staying at a good campsite. After a day exploring, it’s nice to return somewhere peaceful where you can relax outside, enjoy a drink and unwind before bed.
Why Campervan Travel Offers So Much Freedom
Trips like this always remind me why buying a campervan was one of the best decisions I’ve made.
The freedom it provides is hard to describe until you’ve experienced it yourself. If the weather looks promising, you can book a campsite at relatively short notice and head off for a few days. You don’t need a complicated plan and you don’t need to travel far.
Sometimes the best trips happen in places you might never have considered visiting otherwise.
Before owning a campervan, I probably wouldn’t have planned a short break like this. Now, it’s become one of my favourite ways to travel. A simple campsite booking can turn into a memorable few days exploring somewhere new, spending time with friends and discovering places you’ll want to return to again.
Being able to park up, cook your own meals, visit great pubs and restaurants, relax outside and wake up somewhere different each morning creates a sense of adventure that’s difficult to replicate with other forms of travel.

For me, it was another reminder of why I love camping and campervan travel so much. Great company, beautiful scenery, a well-run campsite and the freedom to explore at our own pace made for a brilliant few days away.
