Why We Added Our Camping Route Planner

Why We Added Our Camping Route Planner

Planning a camping trip should be exciting, not frustrating.

Whether you’re touring the coast in a campervan, moving between campsites on a family holiday, or exploring different regions of the UK over a long weekend, one of the most time-consuming parts of planning is working out your route.

That’s exactly why we decided to create the Camping Route Planner on Campsites and Lodges.

Unlike many route planning tools, ours is designed specifically for campers, caravan owners, motorhome travellers and holidaymakers who want a simple way to map out a journey between multiple campsites without creating an account, downloading an app or paying for a subscription.

The Problem With Most Route Planners

When researching campsites, we found that many visitors were opening multiple browser tabs, switching between campsite websites and manually entering locations into Google Maps.

The process often looked something like this:

  • Find a campsite.
  • Open Google Maps.
  • Save the location.
  • Repeat for the next campsite.
  • Try to work out whether the route actually makes sense.

For people planning touring holidays, especially those travelling around areas such as Cornwall, Devon, North Wales, Scotland or the Lake District, this quickly becomes complicated.

Many route planning tools are also aimed at logistics companies, delivery drivers or professional route optimisation. While those tools are powerful, they are often far more complex than most campers need. We wanted something simpler.

Built Specifically For Camping Trips

The Camping Route Planner allows you to plot multiple locations on a single route and visualise your journey before you travel. Instead of jumping between different websites and maps, you can quickly build a route and see how your trip fits together.

This can be particularly useful if you are:

  • Touring several campsites in one holiday.
  • Planning a road trip around the UK.
  • Visiting multiple holiday parks.
  • Exploring different regions before deciding where to stay.
  • Comparing travel times between destinations.
  • Planning a campervan or motorhome adventure.

Sometimes seeing everything displayed on one map helps you make better decisions about where to stay and how far to travel each day.

No Account Required

One of the main reasons we built this tool was to remove unnecessary barriers. Many online planning tools require:

  • Registration.
  • Email verification.
  • App downloads.
  • Subscription fees.
  • Personal information.

We wanted visitors to be able to open the planner and start using it immediately. There is no need to create an account or remember another password. Simply add your locations and start planning.

Useful For Campsites, Caravan Parks and Holiday Parks

Although the planner was originally created with campsites in mind, it also works well for people staying in:

  • Holiday lodges.
  • Caravan parks.
  • Glamping sites.
  • Motorhome stopovers.
  • Touring parks.
  • Campervan-friendly locations.

Many travellers mix accommodation types throughout a trip, so it made sense to build a tool that works regardless of where you’re staying.

Perfect For Touring Holidays

The UK is full of fantastic touring routes. You might spend a week exploring North Wales, move on to Snowdonia, continue through Mid Wales and then finish along the coast. You might travel through Cornwall, stopping at several campsites before heading into Devon. Or perhaps you’re planning a Scottish Highlands adventure with multiple overnight stops. The planner helps visualise those journeys before you leave home, making it easier to estimate driving times and avoid unnecessary backtracking.

Discover New Areas Along The Way

One unexpected benefit of route planning is discovering places you might otherwise miss. When you see your route laid out on a map, you often notice attractions, beaches, national parks and villages that weren’t originally part of the plan. This can help turn a simple campsite booking into a much more memorable road trip. Many of our users tell us they enjoy exploring the journey itself rather than focusing solely on the final destination.

Designed To Complement Our Campsite Directory

The Camping Route Planner is part of our wider goal of helping people discover great places to stay across the UK. Our campsite and holiday lodge directory already helps visitors find accommodation based on:

  • Location.
  • Accommodation type.
  • Facilities.
  • Dog-friendly options.
  • Swimming pools.
  • Hot tubs.
  • Beach proximity.
  • Family-friendly features.

The route planner adds another layer to that experience by helping travellers connect multiple destinations together into a single trip.

We’ll Continue Improving It

Like everything on Campsites and Lodges, the route planner will continue to evolve. We’re already collecting feedback from users and looking at ways to make planning even easier in future updates. Our aim isn’t to create the most complicated route planning tool on the internet. Instead, we want to provide something practical, easy to use and genuinely useful for campers, caravan owners, motorhome travellers and holidaymakers.

Give The Camping Route Planner A Try

If you’re planning a camping holiday, caravan tour, motorhome adventure or lodge break, we hope the Camping Route Planner helps simplify the process. It was created to solve a problem we regularly encountered ourselves: plotting multiple stops quickly without needing to sign up for yet another service.

Start planning your camping holiday.

We’d also love to hear your feedback and suggestions for future improvements. The best tools are often shaped by the people who use them, and we’ll continue refining the planner based on real-world camping and touring experiences.
